Kiryat Tivon has 3 twin-cities: BRAUNSCHWEIG, Germany, COMPIEGNE, France and CAKOVEC, Croatia.
With Braunschweig the twin-city agreement was signed in 1986, with Compiegne in 1988 and with Cakovec in 2011.
The friendly relationship which developed in the course of the years with Braunschweig and Compiegne brought about many and varied cultural activities, mutual visits of youth delegations in the fields of sports, music and dance, invitations of artists to our exhibitions, as well as mutual visits of adult delegations.
Alongside the Braunschweig municipality, the German-Israeli Friendship Association there engages vigorously in Israel-orientated and Israel-promoting functions and organizes group visits to Israel.
Alongside the Compiegne municipality exists a very active Compiegne-Tivon Friendship Association, with a mainly Jewish membership. The cooperation between our two towns expresses itself in mutual visits, exchanges of youth and adult choirs, orchestras, youth dance groups and invitations of artists to participate in our exhibitions, as well as participation in workshops, such as French baking and cooking.
In spite of the fact that Cakovec is the youngest of our twin-cities, our connections are in full swing. Even before the first signing of our twin-city agreement, which took place in splendor in the historic fortress of the city in January 2011, the Cakovec Mayor Branko Salamon accompanied by 4 senior persons of the city participated at the International Conference of Israel’s Twin Cities. This conference was organized by the Israel Center of Local Authorities and took place in Jerusalem in 2008 and before this event the Cakovec delegation members were guests in Kiryat Tivon. The first agreement-signing ceremony, as mentioned above, was attended by the Israel ambassador in Croatia. The second signing ceremony is scheduled to be held in Kiryat Tivon in the spring of 2012.
